My passion has always been working with my hands — whether crafting or placing them gently in the soil. Over time, that passion became a calling: a deep desire to reconnect with my roots and rediscover the wisdom of the earth.
For me, gardening isn’t just about plants — it’s about relationship. Each plant has its own voice, rhythm, and needs. By learning to listen, we find not only how to help them grow, but also how to nurture patience, peace, and presence within ourselves.
I first learned the art of tending to the land at 14 years old, guided by my father, who taught me how to cut grass and care for a garden. My mother, on the other hand, filled our home with houseplants — her quiet way of bringing life indoors. Their influence shaped who I am today.
My father grew up in Aberdeen, Mississippi, and Port Royal (Moss Neck), Virginia, where generations before us cultivated food to nourish their families. That lineage runs deep within me. The love of playing in the soil and watching something grow is an indescribable joy — one I now share with others.
Through Melanated Eden, my mission is to help others experience that same connection. Whether through container gardening, houseplant care, or simply learning to trust the process — I want my clients, customers, friends, and family to know that anyone can grow with patience, love, and time.
